“Our “Cateau” provides a great alternative to having your cat(s) wandering the great outdoors. We have three cats. We travel. We wanted them to have an outdoor experience while we were away and also one that minimized possible dangers to them and others for roaming the neighborhood while we were here. We read the reviews and agreed that painting the wood to be a good idea to increase the longevity of the product. It took a bit of labor, but we did it and decided to brighten up things. Be sure to identify each part before painting the pieces. We also placed and anchored the structure on treated 2x4s for added ceiling height and raised above the ground. We used sand as the base and added the pavers.Being in Florida where it’s hot most of the year, we did not anchor the two “box enclosures” on the platform as called for in the instructions. Instead, we use them for extra sitting space. Perhaps up north, it is nice to have the enclosure for added warmth. We have the option to do that. We also screwed the structure to the house frame and added an entryway connected to the lanai. We cut some of the screening for the opening since the window height did not line up accordingly with the sliding doors in the structure. We also cut and added an inexpensive plastic tablecloth over the included roof material for added durability. We cannot comment on its durability during a hurricane. But the season just began. “LOVE IT AND THE CATS DO TOO. I was really resistant about purchasing this . But it turned out awesome and very easy to assemble. I ended up building a tunnel for the cats to get to it and some fake grass on a platform. Overall 10/10 gets very sturdy once the roof goes on. “Nice, big catio. I love how large this catio is. I priced out the materials to build one from scratch and it was over $800. When I was putting it together it seemed flimsy, but once the roof was on and the extra roof supports in place, it is now much more sturdy. The instructions aren’t great and don’t include adding the roof supports, it just looks like there are extra parts. I sprayed it with urethane for extra water proofing and added a latch to the inside of the door so I could come in and close it behind me. I built all of it except the roof myself. Putting the roof on is definitely a 2-person job. Overall, I am very happy with the catio.
